1-29-2024 Season 86 title & promotion to III
An exciting end to season 86 for Ironopolis as we secured promotion & a return to III after a 15 season break. The final match of the season in IV.41 saw our boys secure the title with a 90th minute winner as Egyptian defender Omar Medhat finished off a left wing counterattack to send the fans into raptures.
The qualifier was a cagey affair with all at the club thinking maybe we'd done enough to win when homegrown starlet Leroy Hobson swept through the middle in the 83rd minute to take a 2-1 lead. Our opponents had other ideas and equalised immediately just a minute later. Keeper Crispin Underwood earned his crust when in the 86th minute he kept us in the game with a spectacular one-on-one block to take the game into extra-time. Both teams had chances but the game remained deadlocked and so went to penalties. Again Omar Medhat proved his mettle as he stepped up to the plate and struck the winning penalty to start the promotion party.
